I’m a mother of two beautiful daughters, and nothing brings me more comfort than knowing we are ready for whatever life might throw our way. After witnessing the tragedy caused by the DANA storm in Valencia in 2024, I realized that being prepared for an emergency isn’t just an option—it’s an absolute necessity. Hundreds of lives were lost because of a lack of coordination and because most households simply weren't equipped for such a devastating event.
But nature isn’t the only thing that can catch us off guard. Just months later, when a massive blackout struck Spain, Portugal, and parts of southern Europe, we faced a completely different kind of chaos.
Suddenly, the electricity went down, and we realized just how terrifyingly unready we were for a world without power. We have become a society that relies entirely on our digital devices, yet when the grid failed, we didn’t even have the absolute basics. No external chargers to keep in touch with loved ones, no radios to listen to the news, and not even a simple flashlight to guide our children through the dark.
Those two wake-up calls changed everything for me. I never want another family to feel that overwhelming sense of panic, helplessness, or uncertainty when disaster strikes—whether it’s a flash flood or a sudden power grid failure.
